Program Begins
After class is dismissed, all after school students convene in the cafeteria. An after school staff member will pick up kindergarten and first-grade students in their classrooms and escorts them to the cafeteria.
Check-In
All students check-in with a staff member at the Front Desk for attendance. This is also the same place where students are signed out when they are picked up from after school.
Snack
Families are expected to provide a snack each day for their child.
***Due to student allergy concerns, we request that you do not provide snacks containing traces of peanuts or tree nuts.
Daily Meeting
We have a short meeting with the students each day to make daily announcements, go over current program issues and review rules as necessary.
Outside/Gym
After snack and meeting are finished, we go outside every day the weather cooperates and to the gym when it doesn’t. We highly recommend that students wear sneakers to after school! Exercise and free play are vital parts of the after school day. We also offer organized sports and games both outside and in the gym. We will also be offering staff-directed sports and games available as part of our WBExL after school clubs.
Homework
All students in Grades 2–4 are required to spend time on their homework each afternoon. Each student may pack a reading book each day to read during homework time should they finish early. This supervised homework time is available every day but Friday. While our staff is always willing to help students, one-on-one tutoring is not available at this time.
NOTE: Teacher’s classrooms are off limits before 8:50 a.m. and after 3:00 p.m. Students who forget homework materials will be unable to retrieve them from their classroom until the following day.
WBExL CLUBS
In after school, students will have the opportunity to join in a variety of after school clubs. The clubs may include activities such as knitting, drawing, sports, board games, weird science, poetry, community service, arts & crafts, etc. The clubs will be run in three sessions each year. Information about the first session of WBExL Clubs will be sent home in the fall. These clubs are in addition to the daily activities offered each day. There is no charge to sign children up for after school clubs.
Pick Up
3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
In after school, parents may pick up their child(ren) any time between dismissal at 3:00 p.m. and our 6:00 p.m. closing time. Please enter the school via the cafeteria doors on the Sherman Street side of the school. Parents must sign their students out of the program at the Front Desk (located next to the stage in the cafeteria). Children will only be released to people authorized in their file. A minimum late fee of $20.00 is charged – at the time of pick up – when students are not picked up by 6:00 p.m. We request that all parents submit at least one emergency contact, to be used in an emergency, but also if you are unable to pick up by closing time. Please contact our director if you need any help arranging for an emergency contact.
NOTE: All authorized pick-ups should be prepared to show a picture I.D. to the staff members at the Front Desk. Students will not be released to anyone that is not identified on the child’s emergency form, NO EXCEPTIONS.
